RECYCLING
Posted at the community
center are the solid waste, salvage, and disposal policies
for the Brown County Port & Solid Waste Dept. Their
rates and fees are also posted (492-4950). In addition,
Heim Auto & Recycling (866-2688) at 5523 Luxemburg Rd.,
New Franken, accepts appliances for recycling, but those with
freon, such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners
need to be drained by a licensed technician. Lead-acid
batteries can be dropped off at our recycling center. Inside
the community center are handouts on what can and cannot
be taken there.
Just about all you
need to know about Wisconsin's recycling program is now
a "click" away at http://dnr.wi.gov/org/aw/wm/recycle/.
WirelessRecycling.com

used cell phones to do so by entering their zip code into
the web sites zip code locator.
Open burning is the
state's largest source of air pollution, the largest uncontrolled
source of toxic dioxin emissions, and the No. 1 source
of wildfires, according to the Dept. of Natural Resources.
The majority of dioxin intake to humans comes from food sources,
and emissions from burn barrels land on feed crops and go
into the bodies of farm animals. Our waste streams
contain plastic and other synthetic materials that are unsafe
to burn. Disposing of those solid waste materials
in one's own back yard can cause pollution problems.
Remember to reflect when purchasing,
reduce, replace, reuse or refill, repair, and recycle!
All controlled burns should be called into
County Dispatch (448-4210). If the Denmark Fire Department
is dispatched to a controlled burn, the department will bill
the responsible party. A bill will be sent to the
individual for the amount of time spent on this fire incident,
and if compensation is not received in a timely manner, a
second bill will be sent to the township.
Please contact the zoning administrator
for building permits.

FIRE
NUMBERS
It has come to our attention
certain problems relating to fire numbers. Mainly,
that they are not easily visible or numbers that have been
removed. Let us not forget the real purpose of the
numbers. They are quick reference in the time of emergency.
You know your numbers, but if a passer by has to report
an emergency situation, less confusion means time saved.
The county emergency services (Police, Fire and Rescue) are
all correlated for quick response. So any time saved
is very important. The fire number must be placed
near the driveway and be highly visible. The numbers are
for your benefit and must be treated as such.
MANURE AND MUD ON ROADWAYS
If the Denmark Fire Department
is dispatched by County 911 to flush manure or mud from the
roadway, the Department will send the bill to the individual
involved. If compensation is not received in a timely
manner, the Department will bill the township.
